Friday Night Legends is a football board game that uses actual team statistics, play calling and some luck to determine the outcome – kind of like real life! In this series, we will take some of these great teams we have compiled and give you a write-up of how the two played using Friday Night Legends.

’18 Longview Lobos (TX) (16-0) vs. ’18 Bixby Spartans (OK) (12-1)

Both teams were Class 6A Division II State Champions.

Longview Head Coach John King had brought the Lobos to the title game twice before but came up short.  With his son Hayne at QB this year, they won the 2018 State Championship 35-34 over Beaumont West Brook

Offense : 49.80 ppg They run the ball 71% of the time Defense : 19.7 ppg

The Spartans won the Oklahoma State Class 6A Division II State Championship. This was their 3rd Championship in the last 4 years.

Offense : 43.00 ppg They run the ball 54% of the time Defense : 12.0 ppg

1st QTR

Possessions:

Bixby : Comes out throwing and moves to midfield before throwing an interception.    Longview ball at the Bixby 43.

Longview:   Goes 3 and out.

Bixby: Starts their drive at their own 15. Gets a first down but a penalty kills the drive

Bixby:  Drives to midfield and are forced to punt because of another penalty against them.

Longview:  Gets pinned back to their 6 after a good punt.  The quarter ends 2 plays later.

Bixby has bad the ball for 9:20 of the 1st quarter and have run 21 plays to Longviews 8……big Bixby advantage in yardage 119-16.

2nd QTR

Possessions:

Longview:  Goes 3 and out

Bixby: Takes over at the Longview 47 after the punt.  They score on a 13 yard pass to take the lead 7-0.    Early in the 2nd quarter, they already have 149 yards passing.

Longview:  Finally gets the offense going and drives to the Bixby 4 before getting shut down. They settle for a short field goal to tighten the score to 7-3.

Bixby:  gets stuffed on a 3 and 1 play and are forced to punt

Longview:  Gets a 27 yard punt return to begin their drive at the Bixby 47. They score on a 14 yard run with 2:20 left until halftime to take a 10-7 lead.

Bixby:  Gets a good drive going before the Lobos gets a QB sack and force a punt

Longview: Is pinned back at their own 7 with 1:10 left. They are able to run out the clock.   They had a scare with 30 seconds left when they fumbled the ball but the runner was able to fall on the ball at their own 11 yard line.

For the 1st half

Longiew’s running game is not doing as well as expected with 17 carries for 66 yards

Longview 10 – Bixby 7

3rd QTR

Longview:  Drove into Bixby territory but with the Spartan crowd getting into it, the defense sacked the Lobo QB to end the drive

Bixby:  Gets pinned down at their own 5 after the punt — goes 3 and out and punts

Longview:  Begins their drive at the Bixby 40. They face a 2nd and goal at the 1 and get their first penalty of the game…a personal foul. They settle for a 29 yard field goal to make it 13-7

Bixby:  Converts on a 4th and 1 at the Lobo 25 and they drive the rest of the way to score on a 1 yard run to take a 14-13 lead.

Longview:  Is driving as the quarter ends

Bixby 14 – Longview 13

4th QTR

Longview:  Overcomes a clipping penalty to score on a 13 yard pass to take a 20-14 lead.

Bixby:  Gets 3 consecutive big plays to move 67 yards and score on a 17 yard run to take a 21-20 lead

Longview:  Keeps it on the ground and they score on a 30 yard run to take a 27-21 lead

Bixby:  goes 3 and out

Longview:  gets a good punt return and begin their drive at the Bixby 47 with 5:10 left in the game.   They score on a 5 yard run to extend their lead to 34-21

Bixby:  Thows and interception in Lobo territory with 2:40 remaining

Longview: Drives to the Bixby 10 before running the clock out
